UM Students, Instructor Win Top Awards at Statewide PRAM Conference |

OXFORD, Miss. - Seven University of Mississippi journalism students and their instructor, all members of the local Public Relations Association of Mississippi chapter, won distinguished awards including two of the top four honors - at the recent statewide PRAM conference in Hattiesburg. The students competed with professionals to win certificates of achievement, awards of excellence and first place PRism awards, as well as prestigious Best in Show and Judge's Choice honors. "I was overwhelmed with pride at our students' success in the competition,"said Robin Street, instructor in journalism and public relations. "Every student who entered won an award. That says a tremendous amount about the quality of these students and their work." |

The Women in Higher Education--Mississippi Network (WHEMN) Spring Leadership Conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 28-29, 2008 on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in their Thad Cochran Center. In addition to the spectacular line-up of speakers, the conference is an excellent way to network with those who share your profession while also sharpening your career skills. Registration is only $50 and covers all conference sessions and materials as well as lunch and reception/dinner on Thursday and breakfast and lunch on Friday. There is a presidents panel on Friday which will feature Millsaps' president, Frances Lucas, Tougaloo's president, Beverly Hogan, and USM's president, Martha Saunders. Public Relations Association of Mississippi Oxford/Ole Miss Chapter Scholarship Application 2008
The Oxford/Ole Miss Chapter of the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM) consists of almost 80 public relations professionals and university students. PRAM is a source of expertise and inspiration, and a forum for networking with public relations practitioners throughout the community, state and region. PRAM is composed of 11 local chapters and is a member organization of the Southern Public Relations Federation . This scholarship is awarded to one student annually, who is a member of the Oxford/Ole Miss Chapter, and who exemplifies the professionalism, goals, and ideals of the public relations profession.
Winner’s Prize: The winner will be recognized and presented with a cash scholarship, in person, at the April meeting of the Oxford/Ole Miss Chapter of PRAM. The scholarship winner receives: $250 cash scholarship
Criteria: Scoring the applicants is based on the following criteria in order of importance: academic excellence and academic honors earned (50%); campus involvement including public relations activities plus community activities (30%); community service project involvement (10%); one page essay on why you want to go into PR and what you hope to achieve in the profession (10%).
Student Eligibility: Students eligible for the scholarship must meet the following requirements: (a) must be an undergraduate at the University of Mississippi, (b) must be a member of the Oxford/Ole Miss Chapter of PRAM, (c) Must have completed or be enrolled in JOUR 391, and (d) must be a journalism or marketing communications major. A student who has already won the scholarship may not win it again. For more details download an application.
